Pumblechook .

Blog No. 2
[ Name Description ]

The name Pumblechook reveals the character's personality. "Pumble" is very similar to "pubble", which means pudgy or fat. "Chook" is a slang term used to call pigs.

"It's five-and-twenty pound, Mum," echoed that basest of swindlers, Pumblechook, rising to shake hands with her; "and it's no more than your merits (as I said when my opinion was asked), and I wish you joy of the money!" (p.104)

This quote is stated after Pip brings home his earnings from Mrs. Havisham. This shows how Uncle Pumblechook loves money and wealth and is greedy like a pig. Therefore, the name pumblechook, similar to the definition of being a pig, describes his personality.

i absolutely agree with you. Pumblechook is a character who counts as part of his merit the succed of Pip.Since the very beginning in ch.4, at the dinner table, he praises himself of being responsible of Pip`s family and also that he cares for the sake of a "naturally wicious" child, bringing him to Miss Havisham as it was "his idea", later putting his nose in Pip`s becoming a gentleman without any obligation and finally -regarding his interest in that everyone else can hear that- praising himself to treat Pip as a gentleman asking for nothing but to be object to his devotion.
yeah, i definitely consider Pumblechoock as a big, fat and pinky pig.
